Five Ways To Get Healthy Today
If there’s one lesson to take away from 2020, it’s the importance of taking care of your health.
You can’t predict every issue you might encounter. There is, however, a lot you can prevent.
With that in mind, here are some lifestyle changes you might want to make for 2021 and beyond.
Make time for routine checkups
At the very least, visit your dentist the way you know you should.
If possible, get your sight and hearing checked regularly too. Ideally, you should have a full medical exam once a year. If that’s not a practical option for you, then you might want to look at using health-tracking devices to monitor your body’s vital signs.
Stay Hydrated
The purest form of hydration is water.
If you don’t want to drink water all the time, then there are plenty of other healthy options. These include milks (dairy and plant-based) and caffeine-free hot drinks.
Fruit and vegetable juices are actually a bit of a gray area. They do contain vitamins and minerals, but they can be high in both sugar and acid and they lack fiber. It’s generally better to eat whole fruits and vegetables. Alternatively, you could put vegetables into soups and stews. These are convenient but still, keep chunks of the vegetables for fiber.
Limit your intake of chemicals including concentrates, energy drinks, caffeine, and alcohol.
At the very least, these are hard for the kidneys to process. They may have other negative side-effects.
Upgrade your cooking skills
The better your cooking skills, the more you can cook from home.
The more you can cook from home the more you can control what you eat as well as how and when you eat it. It’s still fine to eat out or get take out from time to time, especially if you stick to healthy options. This should however be the exception, rather than the rule.
As you become more confident about cooking, you’ll probably feel more confident about trying out new approaches to eating and new ingredients. This can really expand your flavorful healthy eating options.
Review your home workout space
Do you have a space in your home for workouts? And if so is it meetng your needs?
That way you’re prepared if you need to work at home in the future. The most important point about a home-working set-up is that it’s ergonomic. As a minimum, you need a chair with proper lumbar support and all your equipment in the correct position.
You also need proper lighting (general and task) to avoid eye-strain. This can lead to headaches. Even if it doesn’t, it’s bad for your general eye health.

What shape is your mattress in?
Your mattress may need to be turned and be honest about when it’s beyond turning and needs an upgrade. Be prepared to change your bedding in line with the seasons. For example, cotton and linen are both great in spring and summer but when fall rolls around, fleece is usually the better option.
Remember that temperatures drop during the night, so it can be helpful to have an electric blanket you can use while you’re in the bed. If you sleep with a partner, consider getting one with two zones.
